508 Combustible Dust: Regulatory, Legislative and Litigation Issues (Sponsored by the Environmental and Mining Practice Specialties)

Description: This presentation provides an overview of regulatory and legal issues involving exposure to combustible dust in the workplace, both in those regulated by OSHA as well as MSHA. The session will cover OSHA’s reaction to the Petition for Emergency Rulemaking to expand combustible dust regulations beyond the grain industry and current methods of enforcement under the new National Emphasis Program, MSHA initiatives involving combustible coal dust in mines, utilization of NFPA and ASTM consensus standards to protect workers and facilities, and initiatives underway by Congress to mandate rulemaking activities. It will also include discussion of Chemical Safety Board recommendations and their case studies.
